School Sister of Notre Dame Mary McGreevy was chosen as the Beth McDonald Woman of the Month in September through 99.9 KEZ FM.
The Bourgade Catholic High School principal is now a finalist for the Woman of the Year Award.
Every month, McDonald, a local Catholic and morningshow deejay, selects a Valley woman who shows dedication to education, makes a difference in someone’s life, has paved the way for others or has shown an incredible act of generosity.
She chose Sr. Mary after Steven Torres, a Bourgade junior, nominated her. Torres highlighted Sister’s countless hours spent at Bourgade where she is entering her 11th year of service. That shows her passion about each child’s education, Torres said.
Sr. Mary identified several things as important developments to education while under her administration. She said securing funds to help lower-income families afford a Catholic education and being able to further develop the teens’ expression of faith is important.
“When I was notified that Sr. Mary was in the final three to win the award, I was in great shock and went straight into deep prayer letting God know that she deserves the award for her great determination,” Torres said.
“I was humbled, but thrilled,” said Sr. Mary, who wasn’t initially aware of the nomination.
