Local Catholic recognized for 'passion in education'

One woman’s leadership and passion for Catholic education were singled out for recognition during a Jan. 30 Catholic Schools Week Mass.
Superintendent of Catholic Schools MaryBeth Mueller awarded Anne Wuycheck the prestigious Elizabeth Ann Seton award for her tireless work supporting Catholic schools.
“Anne is the product of our Catholic schools and has served at the preschool and elementary school level,” Mueller said. “And the Diocesan School Board has been fortunate to have her service for the past eight years.”
Mueller said that when Wuycheck applied to be on the school board, her goal was to make Catholic education more available to families throughout the diocese.
“With her assistance, we have seen the opening of St. John Bosco School, Notre Dame Preparatory High School, St. Thomas Aquinas School and St. Joseph Montessori School,” Mueller said.
During Wuycheck’s tenure on the school board, she has served as president and liaison to the Catholic Tuition Organization. She has also sat on various committees.
“She has served the diocese in a multitude of capacities,” Mueller said. “No task has been too small for her to say yes to.”
For Wuycheck, saying yes has been easy since she sees the benefits of a Catholic education so clearly.
“I believe that in this day and age parents need to do everything that they can to further the work of the Lord in the home and in school,” Wuycheck said.
She said witnessing the “reverence, respect and love of the Lord” that the school children showed at Mass reminds her why she works so hard for Catholic schools.
“I know they’re getting good academics,” she said. “But they’re also getting what’s important, and that’s the love of God in their everyday lives.”
