A man who served the Valley’s Mater Misericordiae Mission was ordained a priest May 30 in Lincoln, Neb.
Fr. Jared McCambridge, a member of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, worked with the community as a deacon from January of this year until May. The mission celebrates the extraordinary form of the Mass commonly known as the Tridentine Mass which is offered almost entirely in Latin.
Fr. McCambridge helped with the distribution of Communion during Mass, preached the homily on occasion and brought the Eucharist to the sick and dying of the mission.
“He’s very dedicated and knowledgeable about the faith,” said Fr. Kenneth Fryar, FSSP, canonical pastor of the mission. “He’s eager to teach at any opportunity. Oftentimes, he would even stop with people at the store and chat about the faith.”
Daily and Sunday Masses are offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish.
Fr. McCambridge was most struck during his time in Phoenix by the laity’s support of their clergy.
“My favorite memories will be of the profound love of the faithful for their priests, and especially of the gratitude they showed for the priest’s work,” he said.
Fr. McCambridge has been assigned to serve Our Lady of Fatima Chapel in Pequannock, NJ.
