Community is essential in the pursuit of truth, according to Benedictine Father Meinrad Miller, who spoke to the local Communion and Liberation chapter Feb. 16 at Xavier College Preparatory.
Fr. Miller’s presentation was on “The Journey to the Truth is an Experience” by Msgr. Luigi Giussani, the popular theologian and author who founded the Communion and Liberation community in the mid-1950s in Italy.
The journey Msgr. Giussani spoke of “is coming together daily in the community of the Church,” Fr. Miller said. “It is the community that we make as we encounter Christ in our studies, friends and families.”
The priest, from St. Benedict’s Abbey in Kansas, emphasized the importance of prayer and a seeking a better understanding of Jesus.
“Truth is not simply an abstraction. It is a person,” Fr. Miller said. He added that Jesus Christ is not only the truth, but the way to find great meaning in life.
Paolo Contu-Owen is one of the leaders of the Communion and Liberation community in Phoenix. A great fan of Msgr. Giussani, he jumped at the chance to host a presentation of the late priest’s most recently translated work.
“It’s one of the many books that Msgr. Giussani wrote. It’s not a lesson, but it’s a tool almost a manual on how to understand what being Christian today means,” Contu-Owen said.
