Televised Mass changes channels
The TV Mass of the Diocese of Phoenix, which is broadcast live each Sunday from Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral, will move to KAZT-TV (channel 7, Cox Cable 13) April 19 and expands to a 90-minute time slot.
KUTP-TV carried the liturgy live for 60 minutes for the last several years, but that didn’t always mean the Mass ended with the broadcast. Viewers often saw a pre-taped final blessing from Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted when the live liturgy ran long.
Under the new arrangement, homebound Catholics can experience the entire Mass and, time permitting, learn about diocesan programs, services and events. Viewers can also learn more about the broadcast’s sponsors.

Diocesan youth leaders to address social networking
The diocesan Office of Youth and Young Adult Evangelization is teaming up with the Office of Child and Youth Protection to address the dangers and opportunities presented by cyber-bullying, “sexting” and social networking.
The daylong workshop will guide youth leaders through the ethical and legal implications of sexting — sending inappropriate text messages or photos — cyber-bullying and social networking. Presenters will also address how social networking sites and other technology such as blogs and Twitter can be used for evangelization.
Diocesan leaders will outline the new diocesan policy on social networking. The workshop is free and will be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m., April 28, at the Diocesan Pastoral Center, 400 E. Monroe St., and includes Mass and an optional lunch.
For registration information, call Bill Marcotte, diocesan director of Youth and Young Adult Evangelization, at (602) 354-2380.
CTODP to thank corporate tax donors
The Catholic Tuition Organization of the Diocese of Phoenix will be hosting a corporate tax credit appreciation breakfast April 24.
The breakfast, billed as “a celebration of stewardship and scholarship,” will thank corporations that took advantage of the Arizona state tax credit to benefit Catholic students across the diocese.
The Arizona State Legislature passed the Corporate Tax Credit into law three years ago. It permits corporations to claim a dollar-for-dollar income tax credit for contributions made to a student tuition organization.
Last year’s breakfast honored 38 corporate sponsors that raised more than $4.8 million in the past two years through the Corporate Tax Credit program. That allowed 749 students from low-income families to receive need-based scholarships to fund their Catholic education.
St. Mary’s High School to provide free lunch
Students at St. Mary’s High School are used to networking in the community and helping with various projects.
Now students are hoping the community will form new partnerships with them. They’re hosting a free luncheon to start the relationship off right. The luncheon will celebrate the school’s long-standing history in the community and highlight some of the high performance people who once walked the halls of St. Mary’s.
Vince Lombardi, Jr. will speak at the event, noting the quality education path it takes to create high-performance people. St. Mary’s is committed to providing an academic experience that makes students matter spiritually, academically, athletically, artistically and socially.
The luncheon will be held at noon May 1 at the Wyndham Hotel at 50 E. Adams in downtown Phoenix. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. Reservations are required. For registration information, call (602) 251-2509 or visit www.smknights.org.
Golf tournament takes swing at cancer woes
Golf lovers and anyone affected by cancer can now register for the second annual St. Peregrine Golf Tournament.
The event benefits the diocesan St. Peregrine Cancer Shrine at Christ the King Parish in Mesa. The shrine, which contractors hoped to finish by Easter, will serve as an oasis for cancer sufferers and their friends and families, allow for perpetual adoration and provide spiritual and practical resources.
Funds from the tournament will help install pews, stained-glass windows, statuary, woodwork, an altar and other furnishings.
Registration for the tournament begins at 11:30 a.m., May 2, at the Arizona Golf Resort, 425 S. Power Road in Mesa. Cost is $125 per golfer and includes one round, balls, a golf cart and shirt, a prime rib dinner and awards.
Donors can skip the golf course and head straight to dinner for $35. For registration information, visit www.cancershrine.org or call (480) 844-4493. Deadline is April 15.
