Scottsdale parish promotes adoration

SCOTTSDALE Parishioners at St. Bernadette are hoping to inspire a grassroots movement to increase perpetual eucharistic adoration across the Diocese of Phoenix.
At this time, there are about 10 parishes that have or are in the process of adopting a perpetual adoration program. Adorers are recruited from the community as well as nearby parishes.
Typically, adorers sign up for an hour a week, with at least two people scheduled for each hour.
Leaders finalized schedules and went over last-minute details at a planning meeting at St. Bernadette last month. They expect to start perpetual adoration any day now.
“Each of us long to meet God; each of us long to be forgiven, and each of us constantly desire the Lord’s merciful love in our lives,” said Fr. Peter Rossa, the parish pastor. “But, is there any room at the inn? Do we make time for the Lord?”
The priest said that people are often so busy they neglect prayer. He hopes perpetual adoration will become “a place where God’s people encounter Jesus Christ’s love, forgiveness, and mercy.”
Kay Rowan, the parish coordinator, also has high expectations.
“I know in my heart this is going to bring many blessings and a deepening of devotion to Christ in the Eucharist,” she said. “It will bring a new level of spirituality to the St. Bernadette community.”
Parishioner John Smith is looking forward to it.
“It will give us the opportunity for personal prayer, as well as time to pray for our Church and the world,” he said. He has pledged his hour of prayer time, but anticipates stopping by the chapel more often.
