Nov. 9-11
Are you ready for a triple play of diocesan events this weekend (and cooler temperatures to go with it)? There are a lot of parish-level events to keep in mind too. First the triple play:

  • Diaconate ordination — 10 a.m. Nov. 10 at St. Thomas Aquinas in Avondale. Map.
  • Cultural Diversity Mass — 3:30 p.m. musical prelude. 4:30 p.m. Mass Nov. 10 at St. Agnes (24th Street north of McDowell) Map.
  • 3rd anniversary Immaculate Heart Radio and St. Peregrine Cancer Shrine — 4-9 p.m. Nov. 10 at Christ the King in Mesa. Info and map.

Other parish-level events to check out as your schedule permits:

  • Veterans Mass — 1 p.m. Nov. 9 at St. Maria Goretti in Scottsdale. Map.
  • Embracing Those Who Serve — 3-6:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at The Casa (Franciscan Renewal Center) in Scottsdale. Event for civilians, veterans and their families. Activities include Military Culture 101 for civilians, stress reduction, children’s activities, sunset drum circle. BBQ: free for service members and family, $10 for other adults and $5 for children under 12. Flyer.
  • Fall plays — Nov. 9-11 at Brophy, Bourgade and St. Mary’s High School. Students are putting on “A Few Good Men,” “You Can’t Take it With You” and “Romeo and Juliet” respectively. Info on all.
  • Movie night: “Midnight Clear” — 6-9 p.m. Nov. 9 at The Casa (Franciscan Renewal Center) in Scottsdale. Info. Cost: $15 includes movie, discussion, Grimaldi’s pizza, popcorn, drink. Movie summary. Here’s a trailer:

Rummage sale — 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 10 at Catholic Charities in Phoenix. Benefits DIGNITY program which helps divert women from a life of prostitution. Fill a bag with clothes for $5. Many items 25 cents to $20. Flyer.

Festival — Nov. 9-11 at St. Benedict in Ahwatukee. Rides, games, food. See p.7 of bulletin for entertainment schedule (including a Fr. Gary sing-a-long 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10) and more.

Unique Boutique — Nov. 9-11 at St. Andrew the Apostle in Chandler. Find home and holiday decor, accessories, clothing and more. Proceeds benefit the parish’s outreach to Haiti and local vendors. Info.

Run/Family Walk — 8 a.m. Nov. 10 at SRP Canal (5802 E. Indian School Road). Hosted by Phoenix Sister Cities. Proceeds benefit the nine Phoenix Sister Cities City Committees including Ennis, Ireland where St. Mary’s High School Band will travel and play on St. Patrick’s Day. Also benefits the city’s Disabilities Awareness Program and the Youth Ambassador Exchange Program (YAEP).  Info.
