Honoring Our Mother: Faithful flock to downtown Marian celebration
The streets of downtown Phoenix are usually sleepy on Sunday mornings. But on Dec. 9, they bustled with celebration. Hundreds braved the unusually chilly and wet weather to celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe with a procession, Mass, eucharistic adoration and live music at the second annual Honor Your Mother event.
Women portraying Virgin seek to strengthen faith
For the past two years, a new tradition has called Catholics to gather at the Diocesan Pastoral Center to honor the mother they share in faith. For some, the celebration continues all year long. A few women who helped portray Our Lady of Guadalupe at the Honor Your Mother celebration Dec. 9 hold a special place in their hearts for the Virgin Mary.
CDA sets sights on future while celebrating its past leadership
Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted announced a new goal and introduced the co-chairs for the 2008 Charity and Development Appeal last month. Steve and Denise Zabilski, a husband and wife team held in high esteem throughout the community, will offer leadership and a personal example to Catholics across the diocese to support the CDA through both prayer and financial support. This year’s $10.5 million goal will go toward supporting the more than 70 charitable organizations that help the unborn, assist people in crisis, affirm vocations and strengthen families.

Dangers along the road less traveled
