40th anniversary – 11 a.m. Mass Nov. 4 at Our Lady of Joy Parish in Carefree. With Bishop Eduardo A. Nevares. What started as a mission of OLPH in Scottsdale with somewhere between 25 and 70 families, became an independent parish in 1972 that has grown to serve 3,400 families.
The parish’s stewardship committee consistently meets local need throughout the diocese. Recent efforts include badly needed upgrades and repairs at missions on the Native American reservations and equipment for the diocesan radio studio which records The Bishop’s Hour weekly podcast.

High school open house

  • 1-4 p.m. Nov. 4 at Notre Dame Prep. More than 80 percent of students participate in sports, clubs, student government and performing arts. Applications due Nov. 30. The Class of 2012 was awarded $13 million in scholarships.
