Mater Misericordiae Mission will honor the life of Fr. Kenneth Walker, FSSP, with a special prayer event June 21 at Family Planning Associates in downtown Phoenix.

Fr. Walker, 28, was killed June 11 during an attempted burglary at the rectory located next door to the church located near the state capitol. Fr. Joseph Terra, FSSP, pastor of Mater Misericordiae, was critically injured during the attack. Police arrested Gary Moran, 54, in connection with the case and say they have DNA evidence linking Moran to the crime.

Fr. Walker and Fr. Terra have been seen praying outside abortion clinics many times over the years.

In an interview with The Catholic Sun, Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted of the Diocese of Phoenix noted the pro-life work of the two priests.

“Every time that I went to pray during the ‘40 Days for Life’ at the abortion places, [Fr. Walker] was there with Fr. Terra,” Bishop Olmsted said. “They are faithful priests, joyfully serving their people.”

On its website, Family Planning Associates lists the abortion services they provide, including surgical abortions up to 23 weeks gestation.

Ellen Sweeney of 40 Days for Life lauded the efforts of the slain priest to protect women and babies from abortion.

“Fr. Walker was a tireless prolife prayer warrior on behalf of the unborn and their parents,” Sweeney said. “Please join us in this testament to Fr. Kenneth’s life, and invite your friends and
family to do the same.”
