Brophy College Preparatory has long had a “Graduate at Graduation” profile. A new tradition has the Jesuit school also profiling and honoring graduates after graduation at the annual Father/son Communion Breakfast.

The inaugural honors were bestowed at the Nov. 22 event. Colin Gilbert, Class of 2003, received the award aimed at recent alumni — graduated within the last 15 years — who were deeply moved to use their talents to address world needs. Gilbert has formed or supported programs for underserved students since graduation stateside and in Latin America. He went on to serve a key role with Jesuit Refugee Service during Syria’s civil war.

Tom Manos, Class of 1970, is the recipient of the St. Ignatius Loyola Award for Distinguished Service because his life’s work exemplified a sustained commitment to the values of a Jesuit education. Manos earned a college degree before serving in Liberia with the Peace Corps where he helped farmers and small business owners secure low interest loans. He spent 10 years as chief financial officer for Maricopa County, in which he oversaw construction of the Human Services Campus among other partnerships.
