The program is designed for people looking for a career in the financial, banking, accounting and insurance fields, as well as working professionals seeking a career change. It’s registered with the Certified Financial Planning Board of Standards Inc. to fulfill the education requirements of the CFP certification.

“There is a need for Certified Financial Planners today, more than ever,” said Ron Finnigan, program director. “Helping people manage investments and reach financial goals is a job that requires professional skills and knowledge.”

Benedictine has partnered with Kaplan Schweser to offer a nine-month CFP certificate program, which is not available anywhere else in the Southwest. Kaplan Schweser is the leading provider of financial planning and education materials, and has helped more than 13,000 financial professionals pass the CFP Certification Examination.

The CFP designation helps professionals generate more proceeds than those without it, Benedictine University said in a press release. It doesn’t matter if they work individually or in a team environment. They’re more likely to have regular, lasting clients and able to manage 45 percent of the clients’ assets.

The CFP program is designed for both the experienced and the newcomer to financial management. Faculty is hired and trained by Kaplan Schweser and all have either received their CFP certification, a professional designation or license, or have advanced degrees. Teaching the program at BenU at Mesa are Edward Clark, ChFC, CASL, and Geoffrey White, CFP®, ChFC, MSFS.

Classes meet every other week on Friday evening and all day Saturday for nine consecutive months. Students who successfully complete the certificate program will be eligible to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination.
