MARYKNOLL FATHERS AND BROTHERS

The faithful can learn more about a U.S. Navy chaplain and Maryknoll priest who served in Asian countries in peace time and at war, just in time for the 50th anniversary of his death in September. A new 90-minute documentary, “Called and Chosen — Fr. Vincent R. Capodanno,” will air Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. Arizona time on EWTN.

A panel discussion featuring the producer, board chairman of the Fr. Capodanno Guild and the vice-postulator of his cause for canonization precedes it at 5 p.m. Fr. Capodanno, who has been declared a “Servant of God” on the path to sainthood, made the ultimate sacrifice during his second tour of Vietnam on Sept. 4, 1967. A naval ship was once named in his honor and was the first in the U.S. fleet to receive a papal blessing.
