Diocese hires new assistant superintendent of schools

With the new academic year in full swing at seven Catholic high schools and 29 Catholic elementary schools across the Diocese of Phoenix, the Catholic Schools Office has hired Camryn Friel as the new assistant superintendent of schools.

“We are excited to have Camryn join the Catholic Schools Office team,” said Domonic Salce, executive director for Education and Evangelization and superintendent of schools.

“In her role as Assistant Superintendent, she will work closely with our school administrators to provide support and guidance, oversee diocesan assessment data, serve as a liaison among the Catholic Schools Office, schools and parents and help welcome and support new teacher applicants seeking to serve in our diocesan schools.”

Friel has devoted more than 20 years to Catholic education, serving as a teacher, vice principal, principal and educational leader. Most recently, she served as director of Annual and Leadership Giving at Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix, where she strengthened philanthropic support for the school’s mission and students.

Prior to that role, Friel spent 12 years as principal of American Martyrs School in Manhattan Beach, Calif., leading initiatives that advanced academic excellence, faith formation and community engagement.

Friel holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from Loyola Marymount University and has also earned two master’s degrees in education. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to partnering with school leaders to cultivate vibrant Catholic school communities where students, faculty and families can thrive.

“Camryn brings a strong commitment to Catholic education,” continued Salce, “and we are grateful to have her joining us in this important work.”
