Exploring Mysticism Through the Writings of Three Christian Mystics

Michael Powell
This workshop will help us live into the mystic.
Explore Christian mysticism and look beyond the limiting reality of only what can be seen as visible, comprehended as rational, or sensed as the channel for experience.
The mystic walks within ordinary awareness, yet lives within a world with God that pulses with divinity and overflows with spiritual reality. God is present in all dimensions of life for a mystic, in every breath, every movement, every object, every thought. This workshop will help us live into the mystic.
The books and authors we will explore:
“The Cloud of Unknowing and the Book of Privy Counseling” (author unknown), translated and edited by William Johnston.
“St. Thérèse of Lisieux: A Transformation in Christ,” by Father Thomas Keating
“Julian of Norwich: Wisdom in a Time of Pandemic—and Beyond,” by Matthew Fox
We will enter a shared conversation for 75 minutes for each book, plus an hour to review, reflect and be in resonance with the Beauty, Peace, and Good offered by these writers in order to better integrate what we have experienced. Much of the learning will be through tabletop interaction, large group discussion, and materials presented by your facilitator, Michael Powell.
FEE: $75 per person including lunch. Pre-registration required.
