SUMMARY:Becoming the Stories We Tell: Exploring A Franciscan Spirituality of Narrative and Imagination
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Dan Horan returns to the Casa!\nOne of the distinctive characteristics of the Franciscan tradition is its narrative quality. Like Jesus in the Gospels\, who preached in parables and used stories to reveal the mission and ministry of God’s reign\, the Franciscan theological and spiritual heritage is likewise a storytelling tradition. It draws on narrative\, setting\, and character to convey the depth and breadth of its charism. This retreat explores the significance of narrative in expressing and passing on the Franciscan spiritual tradition\, which requires a robust theology of imagination. We will examine how we can not only tell the Franciscan story eight hundred years after the death of St. Francis of Assisi\, but also embody it in ways that respond to the urgent challenges of our time with a constructive spirit of justice\, peace\, and integrity of creation. \nFee\, including meals: Single\, $325; Commuter\, $175. Pre-registration required. \nFor information on scholarships or doubles\, please email lora@thecasa.org. \nSign Up By Thu\, Oct 1 at 4:00 pm\nFr. SUMMARY:A Brush with God
DESCRIPTION:Peter Pearson\, MDiv\, ThD \nAn Icon for Advent\nIn Advent\, we often set our attention on the coming of the Baby Jesus in the manger. He is both Alpha and Omega\, the beginning and the end. \nIn December\, we will paint an image of Jesus as Lord of History\, using an icon by Ruberval Monteiro\, OSB as our prototype. His icons are both traditional and contemporary\, often incorporating patterns and textures into his work. Join us for a weekend of prayerful painting and community under the guidance of Peter Pearson\, who has been a presenter at the Casa for over 30 years. \nWe work Thursday evening after dinner\, Friday evening after dinner\, all day Saturday (9 am – 4 pm)\, and half-day Sunday (1 – 4 pm). There will be additional times available to work on a second icon for those who are interested. This is completely optional. \nFee: Single\, $625 includes meals and lodging; Commuter\, $425 includes 2 dinners and 1 lunch.
