SUMMARY:Dry Heat Retreat with Peter Pearson\, MDiv\, ThD
DESCRIPTION:Do you have questions about spirituality and the God Quest? \nThe title (“God Quest”)\, was coined by Sandra Schneiders\, IHM in a series of books about the experience of Women Religious in the Church after Vatican II and their attempts to respond to the Council’s invitation to rediscover the original vision of their founders. After reading her entire series\, it occurred to Peter that we are all on that same journey as we live our lives. This lifelong search\, inevitably leads us to questions about spirituality and the God Quest. \nHere’s what we’ll explore:\n-What are we searching for?\n-Where do we look?\n-What’s working?\n-What isn’t?\n-What is the deepest longing of our hearts trying to tell us? \nFee: Single including meals and lodging $300; commuter $150 including meals. Pre-registration required. \nEmail Lora at lora@thecasa.org for double information. \nSign Up By Thursday\, Jun 13\, 2024 at 4:00pm\nFRC.retreatportal.com

SUMMARY:A Brush with God
DESCRIPTION:Iconography Retreat with Peter Pearson\, MDiv\, ThD \nSaint Lucy\, whose name literally means “light\,” is one of the early martyrs of the Church of Rome. Her home was in Syracuse on the island of Sicily and her feast day is December 13. Lucy’s memory is celebrated around the world and often in conjunction with sight\, eyes\, and light. As we walk through our process of creating her icon\, we will ask her intercession on our behalf so that we might see with the eyes of faith and that our icons might be filled with light. \nByzantine iconography is a very systematic and disciplined art of building an image from dark to light and from large areas to small areas. Together\, we will walk through this process\, each of us creating their own icon in a step-by-step process. No previous experience or innate talent is required. Join us as we pray and paint in community this Advent. \nWe work Thursday evening after dinner\, Friday evening after dinner\, all day Saturday (9 am – 4 pm)\, and half-day Sunday (1 – 4 pm). There will be additional times available to work on a second icon for those who are interested. This is completely optional. \nFee: Single\, $600 includes meals and lodging; Commuter\, $400 includes 2 dinners and 1 lunch. Pre-registration required. \nFor information on double rooms\, please email lora@thecasa.org. \nSign Up by Wednesday\, Dec 11 at 4:00 pm\nFRC.retreatportal.com

SUMMARY:Living Into the Truth of God's Extravagant Love
DESCRIPTION:Roger L. Parks\, Psy.D \nA Contemplative Retreat\nPlease note: this a lodger’s only retreat. Commuters are not an option for this retreat. \nIn the words of A.W. Tozer: “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” Given that our view of God is the critical foundation upon which we build and live our lives\, it is essential that our view of Him aligns with the true nature of who He actually is. Unfortunately\, we have learned distorted views of God through family\, the culture\, and even the Church which severely undermines our ability to love\, trust\, and relate to our heavenly Father. This contemplative retreat will help you examine these distorted views and invite you to replace them with a more accurate and biblically-based view of God as incarnated in the person of Jesus – “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). \nBy opening ourselves to the gracious work of the Holy Spirit through participation in guided meditations\, prayer\, silence\, solitude\, journaling\, and writing a Beloved Charter\, retreatants will begin to experience a shift in their view of God to one which is more benevolent\, loving\, and life-giving. Optional spiritual direction sessions will also be offered. \nFEE: Single\, $300 including meals and lodging; Pre-registration required. \nFor information on doubles\, please email lora@thecasa.org. \nSign Up By Thu\, Jan 2\, 2025 at 4:00 pm\nTo register\, visit frc.retreatportal.com

SUMMARY:Befriending Our Belovedness
DESCRIPTION:Diane Millis\, PH.D \nRemembering who we are…\n…sometimes it is necessary to reteach a thing its loveliness\, \n—Galway Kinnell\, Saint Francis and the Sow \nIt’s easy to forget who we are and who we were created to be. We live in a world that keeps telling us who we should be rather than imploring us to remember who we are. We are lovely and we are beloved. \nThis retreat is designed for all those who are seeking to claim their identity as God’s beloved. During our time together\, participants will be introduced to specific approaches for reconnecting with the parts of themselves and their life experiences that yearn to be tended\, befriended\, and healed. \nThrough time in prayer\, presentations by our facilitator\, guided reflection and writing\, and contemplative conversations in small groups\, we will explore practices for reclaiming who we are and who we are called to become—both personally and in community. \nFee: $100 per person including lunch. SUMMARY:St. Francis: Journey of a Resilient Warrior
DESCRIPTION:A special retreat for active-duty service members and veterans \nThis program will run from 5:00pm on Friday\, February 21\, and will conclude on Sunday\, February 23 at 1:00pm. \nSt. Francis: Journey of a Resilient Warrior Retreat is designed to offer active-duty service members and veterans healing insights from one of the most beloved but misunderstood saints\, St. Francis of Assisi. \nMost people don’t know that St. Francis was a soldier and a prisoner of war who faced hardships and challenges before undergoing a profound religious experience. In untangling the paradox of his life\, this retreat will explore how the call of the warrior intersects with the call of spirituality. \nThe group will examine\, from various perspectives\, the challenges confronting veterans in light of the life of a saint who rose out of the ashes of combat to become an icon of peace. With this in mind\, we will look at the life of St. Francis as portrayed in the book The Journey and the Dream by Franciscan Friar Murray Bodo\, OFM. \nFEE: This retreat is provided at no cost to the veterans due to a generous donation through the Arizona Community Foundation. (Note: the underlying cost of the retreat is $300 per person. Should you choose to donate to support a veteran’s attendance in the future\, please contact Victor Jaimes\, Co-Manager of Faith in Action Ministry at vjaimes@thecasa.org). There are no commuter options for this retreat. Please be sure to indicate on the registration form your special needs\, such as if you have a service dog\, CPAP equipment\, need an ADA-accessible room\, a first-floor room\, or have other physical limitations. SUMMARY:The Eucharistic Heart Of Christianity: A Lenten Retreat Talk With Joe Heschmeyer
DESCRIPTION:Come to St. Germaine Catholic Church in Prescott Valley on Friday\, March 14th for a very special presentation on “The Eucharistic Heart of Christianity” by Joe Heschmeyer from Catholic Answers! This Lenten retreat talk will be entirely free to attend. Please share this far and wide and help spread the good news of our core Catholic beliefs! \nDrawing on themes from his book “The Eucharist is Really Jesus: How Christ’s Body and Blood: Are the Key to Everything We Believe”\, Joe explores the essential role of the Eucharist in Christianity. For instance\, what is “the New Testament\,” and how does the Eucharist make sense of Christ’s new covenant? Joe Heschmeyer has a long history of public speaking\, having been a high school and college debater\, an attorney\, a seminarian\, a religion instructor\, and an adjunct professor at a Catholic college. He has run the blog Shameless Popery since 2009\, co-hosted The Catholic Podcast for three years\, and is a long-time contributor to various Catholic online and print publications. \nAs a result\, Joe is comfortable speaking in front of audiences of a variety of sizes\, ages\, and backgrounds. His style combines clear\, logical presentations of information with humor\, analogies\, and stories that help drive home the truth. And though Joe enjoys lively debate\, his approach to apologetics is to “win the person\, not the argument\,” and he has employed that approach with success everywhere from coffeeshops to college campuses.
