SUMMARY:Study the Catechism in a Year
DESCRIPTION:Study the Catechism in a Year\nThe ‘Catechism in a Year’ podcast from Ascension Press is wildly popular\, and we love it. \nBut it’s only a first step. When he was with us\, Cardinal Ratzinger called the Catechism a ‘manual for happiness.’ The beauty of the Catechism is that it can be continually read\, prayed and studied. \nThat’s what we do here at the ICT; we offer the next step by reading\, praying and studying the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Over an academic year\, we study the text of the Catechism\, deepen our understanding of the Lord’s plan for our lives\, and enjoy times of fellowship with Catholics from throughout Arizona and abroad. \nCourses To Take\nWe cover the entire Catechism in two semester-length courses: \nIn the Fall\, we cover the first two sections of the Catechism (the Creed and sacraments) in our ‘Foundations of Catholicism’ course (ICT 101). \nIn the Spring\, we cover the last two sections of the Catechism (morality and prayer) in our ‘Christian Moral Principles’ course (ICT 103). \nThese courses allow the student to be guided in deeper study\, have their questions answered\, interact with students and professors\, and deepen their love for Christ. \nParticipants can start in either the Fall or Spring course. \n84 hours of continuing education are available for Catholic school teachers\, deacon and catechists (42 hours for each semester). \nJoin Us for the Fall 2024\nLocation: St. Thomas the Apostle Parish\, Phoenix\, and video conferencing via Zoom.

SUMMARY:The Stories You Need to Tell with Cristiane Busato Smith
DESCRIPTION:“Writing is a form of prayer. It is an attempt to communicate with God.” Isabel Allende \nWe are all storytellers. Telling stories makes us human. Telling stories about our spiritual journeys – our individual contact with God and the Divine within us – can be enlightening and healing. \nThe creative process of writing can also be a form of contemplation and give us an opportunity to deepen our connection with God and therefore foster spiritual growth. This can provide a deep sense of purpose and well-being. Moreover\, when we immerse ourselves in creative autobiographical writing\, we stimulate various regions of the brain associated with language processing\, memory recall\, and imagination. \nWriting as a group and taking part in shared narratives cultivates empathy\, kindness\, understanding and a sense of belonging that is essential for social bonding. This program will help you write the stories you “need” to tell. Come and discover the writer within! \nThis course consists of six one-hour-and-a-half classes on Saturdays from 11 am – 12:30 pm. \nClass Dates: Sept. 7\, 14\, 21\, 28 and Oct. 5 and 12\, 2024. \nFee: $150 for six sessions. Pre-registration is required. \nSign Up By Thursday\, Sep 5 at 7:00 pm\nFRC.retreatportal.com

SUMMARY:The Hour of the Laity: Lumen Gentium (THL2024)
DESCRIPTION:Lay Catholics have a unique responsibility and privileged opportunity to influence the world for Christ. It’s not an optional prerogative\, but their duty as baptized children of God. Join THL2024! \nWhat’s THL2024? This is a national conference for all lay Catholics who seek to grow as leaders to influence civil society for Christ. The conference lives at the intersection of professional development and spiritual growth. It provides Catholic Leadership formation\, but not for ministry\, for the world! \nAll the experts\, panelists\, and keynotes introduced are lay people. The Hour of the Laity puts only lay Catholic leaders\, who are making an impact\, in front of attendees as examples of authentic lay Catholic leadership. We do not showcase apologists\, theologists\, or ministry leaders. Rather\, we learn from lay Catholic leaders in civil society. \nOur speakers will show lay people why and how our true calling is to be ambassadors of Christ in the world. \nRegister at https://thlconference.org/

SUMMARY:The Eucharistic Heart Of Christianity: A Lenten Retreat Talk With Joe Heschmeyer
DESCRIPTION:Come to St. Germaine Catholic Church in Prescott Valley on Friday\, March 14th for a very special presentation on “The Eucharistic Heart of Christianity” by Joe Heschmeyer from Catholic Answers! This Lenten retreat talk will be entirely free to attend. Please share this far and wide and help spread the good news of our core Catholic beliefs! \nDrawing on themes from his book “The Eucharist is Really Jesus: How Christ’s Body and Blood: Are the Key to Everything We Believe”\, Joe explores the essential role of the Eucharist in Christianity. For instance\, what is “the New Testament\,” and how does the Eucharist make sense of Christ’s new covenant? Joe Heschmeyer has a long history of public speaking\, having been a high school and college debater\, an attorney\, a seminarian\, a religion instructor\, and an adjunct professor at a Catholic college. He has run the blog Shameless Popery since 2009\, co-hosted The Catholic Podcast for three years\, and is a long-time contributor to various Catholic online and print publications. \nAs a result\, Joe is comfortable speaking in front of audiences of a variety of sizes\, ages\, and backgrounds. His style combines clear\, logical presentations of information with humor\, analogies\, and stories that help drive home the truth. And though Joe enjoys lively debate\, his approach to apologetics is to “win the person\, not the argument\,” and he has employed that approach with success everywhere from coffeeshops to college campuses.
