SUMMARY:Come Here\, Brother Wolf: A Veterans Pilgrimage
DESCRIPTION:Casa Veterans Ministry \nExperience a journey of healing and hope\n“Come Here\, Brother Wolf” was produced by two-time Emmy®–winning journalist Dustin Luecke and former award-winning journalist and current author and educator Martha Boehm in association with ProAmo Creative. They filmed the documentary in Italy in May 2025\, joining a multi-generational group of about 30 individuals with experience in various military branches and civilians who took a physical\, emotional\, and spiritual journey through Rome\, Poggio Bustone\, Assisi\, La Verna\, and Gubbio. \n“There’s something about spirituality of place–a battlefield\, a cemetery\, a shrine; poppies\, sunflowers\, and all of nature–which reenergizes\, recreates\, and recaptures one’s soul\,” said Fr. Conrad Targonski\, chaplain at Viterbo University and a pilgrimage leader who is featured in the film. “Francis and Clare of Assisi provide the background for this pilgrimage\, and veterans are amazed of its wonder.” \nThrough conversations with spiritual guides and mental health experts\, the film’s creators explore how Francis of Assisi coped with what was likely post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and how veterans are connecting that with their own experience. \nThe runtime of the film is about 60 minutes. Doors will open at 6 pm\, and the film will start at 7 pm. A discussion with the filmmakers will follow the screening. \nFEE: $10 per person. Pre-registration required. \nScholarships available. SUMMARY:A Franciscan Vision of St. Francis and Easter - A Contradiction?!
DESCRIPTION:Fr. James Saback\, OFM \nA program presented in partnership with the Franciscan School of Theology\nBoth the Franciscan tradition and Franciscan sources have embraced Francis’ identification with the Cross of Christ and with Francis’ desire to share in Christ’s suffering through the gift of the Stigmata. But does it end there? Is there anything of Easter\, or an understanding of Easter that can and must be gleaned from Francis’ life and the movement that has followed his life? Indeed there is and it is in need of being reclaimed and recovered\, especially through insights gained from understanding the San Damiano Cross in a much broader way. As a symbol of Easter glory and victory the San Damiano Cross reveals the need for all believers to accept the challenge of Christ’s life\, to be people who live and act for each other\, embracing the truest nature of what it means to “be human”. \nProgram will be presented in the San Damiano Auditorium. \nFree will donation to the Franciscan School of Theology\nOpen Attendance \nhttps://frc.retreatportal.com/calendar/event?programcode=26AEW74696

SUMMARY:Church of the Ascension Celebrates 50th Jubilee with Special Palm Sunday Mass in the Park
DESCRIPTION:Church of the Ascension Celebrates 50th Jubilee with Special Palm Sunday Mass in the Park\nFOUNTAIN HILLS — As part of its landmark 50th anniversary Jubilee celebration\, the Church of the Ascension invites the entire Fountain Hills community to a special outdoor Palm Sunday Mass on March 29\, 2026.\nThe service will take place at 10:00 a.m. in the Fountain Hills Amphitheater at Fountain Park. This unique open-air liturgy will mark the beginning of Holy Week in a setting that recalls the community’s early roots\, bringing faith into the public square just as the parish celebrates five decades of service to the region.\nThe Mass will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Eduardo A. Nevares\, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Phoenix. Concelebrating the liturgy alongside the Bishop will be Father Jilson Panakkal\, Pastor of the Church of the Ascension.\nA ceremonial procession will open the liturgy\, featuring a touching visual representation of the church’s longevity: some of the parish’s oldest founding members will walk alongside the children of the parish. This intergenerational procession symbolizes the passing of the faith from the “living stones” who built the church 50 years ago to the future generation who will carry it forward.\nAttendees can also expect a robust musical program\, taking advantage of the amphitheater’s acoustics to uplift the solemnity and joy of the occasion.

SUMMARY:Embracing Franciscanism: Connecting to the Vision Today
DESCRIPTION:Patti Sills-Trausch \nAre you Franciscan-hearted?\nDo you connect to the core values of this legacy that helps us on our journey? Who are the witnesses to the Franciscan way of life today? \nEight hundred years ago\, St. Francis and St. Clare desired to follow Jesus Christ in an alternative way. They wanted to follow the poor man of Nazareth and walk in his footprints. Their vision drew others who together formed communities with a common bond of simplicity\, prayer\, contemplation and serving the least in society. For eight hundred years\, vowed religious and lay people have lived out this vision. \nWe invite you to this workshop to explore the stories of our founders and Franciscan values\, to learn from Casa community members\, and to make a commitment to deepening your connection to the Franciscan vision. \nSpecial guest speaker: Fr. Page Polk on what attracted him to the Franciscan way of life. \nFEE: $30 per person. SUMMARY:SET APART: YOUR MISSION IN THE FINAL BATTLE OVER MARRIAGE AND THE FAMILY
DESCRIPTION:Everyone comes from a family\, sometimes dysfunctional yet destined for eternal love. This year’s Witnesses to Hope Celebration & Fundraiser (to benefit the John Paul II Center for Theology of the Body) will address a reality many sense but struggle to name: the most decisive spiritual battle of our time is being fought over marriage and the family. \nKeynote speakers\, Mike & Alicia Hernon of the Messy Family Project\, are trusted Catholic voices who have helped millions of families navigate this struggle with clarity\, faith\, and hope. Through decades of ministry—and the lived experience of raising ten children—they speak honestly about what is breaking down in family life today\, what actually strengthens it\, and how ordinary people can respond with courage and love. \nThis is not a talk about ideal families or abstract theories. It is a message for anyone who cares about the future of the Church\, the dignity of marriage and family\, and the health of our culture—single or married\, parent or grandparent\, clergy or religious. \nJoin the John Paul II Center and Catholic community from around the diocese for an evening of truth\, hope\, and renewal on March 14\, 2026\, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Tempe! \nEarly Bird Discount: available through Feb. 15th. Group Discount: Get every 10th ticket free! Make plans now with fellow parishioners\, family\, and friends. Use coupon code GROUP_10! at checkout. Seating is limited—early registration is encouraged.

SUMMARY:Franciscan Lenten Conversations
DESCRIPTION:Faith in Action Ministry \nMarch 9 and 16\, 2026\nFor two Monday evenings in mid-Lent we will take time to pause and reflect on our spiritual journeys. We will use readings from the daily reflection booklet: “Peace Compels Us: Reflections for Lent 2026\,” published by Pax Christi USA; co-written by Michael Angel Martín and Bishop John Stowe\, OFM. \nThought-provoking and often poetic\, these reflections will provide excellent companionship for anyone who wants: – to go deeper into the scriptures during Lent\, or – to connect with others about our call to Christian discipleship\, and – to witness to the God of nonviolence and love. If the weeks slip by or if your Lenten practice needs refreshed\, take advantage of this opportunity. \nOur time together will include contemplative prayer\, reading scripture and conversation. And perhaps\, during this time of prayer\, we too will feel Lenten grace. \nHeld on Zoom\, participants access this course through the Zoom application. Once registered\, participants receive a registration receipt from the Franciscan Renewal Center. Closer to the start of the class\, the Zoom access information will be provided to you through an email. * To receive your booklet before Lent begins: please register by Friday morning\, February 13. Registration remains open until March 7. Pick up the pocket booklet at the Guest Services Desk in the Lobby. \nInformation on authors: \nMichael Angel Martín\, a member of the Pax Christi USA Young Adult Caucus\, is the state coordinator of Pax Christi Florida. His poetry and essays have appeared in “America\, Presence: A Journal of Catholic Poetry\,” and other literary and spiritual publications. A Benedictine oblate\, he lives in Miami\, Florida. \nPax Christi USA’s Bishop President\, John Stowe\, OFM Conv. is the third bishop of Lexington\, appointed by Pope Francis in 2015. Richard Rohr\, OFM\, states\, “We don’t think ourselves into new ways of living\, we live ourselves into new ways of thinking.” How do we live our way into peace? \nA long-held tradition\, Franciscans greet others\, take leave of others\, and encourage one another through the expression “Peace and All Good.” Together let’s explore the life experiences that give substance and meaning to this reminder of love in our fractured world. \nThis workshop will look to the examples and inspirations offered by men and women who have been beacons of and for peace\, from Jesus through modern day practitioners. Using the “Sermon on the Mount” as a framework to determine some practical applications\, it will offer opportunities for exercises or activities that constructively build peace\, and/or address anger and tension creatively. \nHow do we bear witness to pain and suffering and live Pope Francis’ call in “Laudato Si’: Care for Our Common Home” that states\, “Our goal is not to amass information or satisfy curiosity\, but rather to become painfully aware\, to dare to turn what is happening to the world into our own personal suffering and thus to discover what each of us can do about it” (par. 19). \nEducation methods may include video\, individual and small group exercises\, prayer and contemplation\, reflective writing\, and presentations by speakers to be determined. The Peace Ministry core team consists of Michael Powell\, Judy Zene\, Michael Bradley\, Rosemarie LeClercq and is staffed by Laura Libertore. \nFee: $50 per person including lunch. Pre-registration required. \nScholarships available. \nSign Up By Fri\, Feb 27 at 8:30 am\nhttps://frc.retreatportal.com/calendar/event?programcode=26SCN76361
