DESCRIPTION:Catholic Charities USA’s Government Relations team invites you to a webinar on Friday\, August 1\, 2025\, at 2:00 PM ET! Hear from passionate advocates and dedicated service providers as they share their insights and efforts in the fight against human trafficking and how they are addressing the impact on individuals and our communities. Feel free to share widely. \nRead about our incredible guest speakers below! \nTheresa Chamblee launched the Ministry of Social Concerns for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis in 2017 and continues to serve as the director. In this role\, she has developed ministries focused on global solidarity\, care for immigrants\, and poverty relief for central and southern Indiana. In 2020\, she launched the Human Trafficking Awareness ministry\, focusing on the impacts of social media and gaming apps. In recognition of how easily children and teenagers are susceptible to online grooming\, she launched the Protecting Our Children program in 2023\, a 3-part curriculum designed for 7th and 8th grade students. \nKwami Adoboe-Herrera is a nationally recognized leader\, survivor\, and advocate in the fight against human trafficking. He is the Founder\, CEO\, and Board Member of Teleios\, Inc.\, a nonprofit based in Cleveland\, Ohio\, dedicated to providing safe housing\, trauma-informed care\, and holistic support for male survivors of human trafficking. Originally from Togo\, Kwami is himself a survivor of labor trafficking\, having endured six years of forced labor in the United States before being rescued through the intervention of a compassionate teacher. Kwami is a Presidentially appointed member of the United States Advisory Council on Human Trafficking\, where he advises on federal anti-trafficking policy and amplifies survivor voices at the highest levels of government. He also serves on the board of Not For Sale: One Step at a Time\, and is active nationally and locally as an advocate\, keynote speaker\, and peer mentor. Rooted in his Catholic faith\, Kwami draws strength and purpose from his belief in forgiveness\, restoration\, and hope. A graduate of Walsh University with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education\, Kwami is equally dedicated to education and criminal justice reform. He holds multiple certifications in peer support\, suicide prevention\, and trauma-informed care. His leadership has been recognized with the 2023 Gillen-Massey Award.

DESCRIPTION:May is National Foster Care Awareness Month! Please join us for a Virtual Info Session with Catholic Charities and experienced foster parents to refugee youth. There is no obligation following the call; just come and learn about the variety of ways to get involved! \nAn Unaccompanied Refugee Minor is a child who was forced to flee his/her home country and is found in a foreign country without any adult relative to provide protection. They often are survivors of kidnapping\, trafficking\, smuggling\, and other traumatic events and desperately need a safe adult to take them under their wings for a period of time. \nYOU can be that safe place for a refugee child and\, in so doing\, answer the cries of their first parents and express the heart of God who calls himself a “father of the fatherless” (Psalm 68). \nThis will be an ONLINE event. The link will be sent after registration.

The 11-minute film will be available on TLI’s YouTube and Facebook accounts. \nAs part of the organization’s mission to deliver civic leadership development to lay Catholic professionals in the U.S. and beyond\, TLI’s upcoming film seeks to create a sense of urgency to challenge the laity to take on leadership roles in the secular world (i.e.\, board service). TLI’s CEO\, Cristofer Pereyra hopes the documentary will reach the hearts and minds of Catholic professionals around the world “who have been given the gifts\, talents\, and resources to influence society as civic leaders.” Pereyra has stated\, “We live in a cynical\, corrupt\, and confused world. The Church continues to bring light into it\, but the world’s hostility against the Gospel requires that lay Catholic leaders work to create a more fertile ground through civic leadership.” \nWho’s in the film?\nOne of the ecclesiastical advisors to TLI\, the Bishop Emeritus of Phoenix as well as TLI’s founder\, the Most Reverend Thomas Olmsted\, is a primary protagonist of the documentary. The other priest in the film is the vicar of Opus Dei in California\, Fr. Luke Mata. Also telling the story is entrepreneur\, podcast-host\, and influential Catholic leader\, Deacon Charlie Echeverry.
