SUMMARY:Emmaus Retreat for Grieving Parents
DESCRIPTION:Marianne Gouveia and Greg Eckerman with Father Page Polk \nThe EMMAUS Ministry for Grieving Parents is a unique ministry that serves the spiritual needs of grieving parents\nOf all the pains that life can hand us\, arguably the most searing is the loss of a child. During this weekend\, just as Jesus joined his distraught disciples on the road to Emmaus\, we pray for all of our parents and we ask Jesus to join us as we walk the horrendous journey of grieving our loss every day. EMMAUS Ministry for Grieving Parents is a unique ministry that serves the spiritual needs of grieving parents whose children of any age have died by any cause\, no matter how long ago. \nWe focus on the promise of eternal life and the rich teachings of our faith to help these terribly broken parents. We ask questions such as: \nWhere is God in my pain? \nWhere is my child right now? \nWhy do I feel abandoned by God? \nHow could God let this happen? \nThe retreat is offered by grieving parents who have lost children of their own. We provide an opportunity for parents to gather in a sacred\, warm\, and compassionate space with others who know their pain. Many parents find peace and comfort\, at least for a time. All faiths are welcome. For additional information\, contact Eric’s Mom\, Marianne Gouveia\, at 602.549.8932. \nFEE: Single $250\, including meals and lodging. Commuter $135 per person. \nPlease email Lora at lora@thecasa.org for information on double rooms. \nPre-registration required.

SUMMARY:Fast Talk Theology: Accompanying Young Adult Catholics with Maureen Day\, Ph.D
DESCRIPTION:A program presented in partnership with the Franciscan School of Theology \nA growing number of studies are examining Catholic young adults\, and they all report the same results: young adults are leaving in droves. However\, when these studies are examined more closely\, they offer a more interesting story than the “leaving in droves” narrative provides. This talk will lift up important takeaways from what we have learned and distill a set of questions to craft a ministry for Catholic millennials and iGens. Participants will walk away with a better understanding of today’s young adults. \nNo fee and no registration required. Program will be in the Auditorium. \nOpen Attendance \nMaureen Day\, PhD\nDr. Maureen Day is the Assistant Professor of Pastoral Theology at the Franciscan School of Theology in Oceanside\, California. \nShe has taught a variety of courses on marriage and family life and has published articles and chapters on American Catholic life\, including in Paulist Press and America magazine. She has also provided her expertise on families and young adults to the Church at both the diocesan and national level\, recently assisting with the San Diego Synod as well as with the data analysis of the 2017 National Study of Catholic Campus Ministry in collaboration with the USCCB’s Secretariat on Catholic Education. Maureen lives in Carlsbad\, California with her husband\, Joseph\, and their two children\, Veronica and David.

SUMMARY:Vatican Exhibit of Eucharistic Miracles
DESCRIPTION:As part of the National Eucharistic Revival\, the Vatican Exhibit of Eucharistic Miracles is coming to Phoenix. There will be many stops on the way. See amazing displays for yourself — no need to travel to Rome! \nWhat is a Eucharistic Miracle?\nEucharistic miracles are extraordinary events or phenomena\, which manifest the Real Presence of Jesus in the consecrated bread and wine in a way that we can discern with our ordinary senses. The manifestation may be as simple as a host floating on air or as astonishing as a host becoming visible human flesh. \nBlessed Carlo Acutis\nTo always be close to Jesus; that’s my life plan. \nWith these few words\, Carlo Acutis\, the boy who died of leukemia\, outlines the distinguishing feature of his brief existence: to live with Jesus\, of Jesus\, and in Jesus. This international exhibition was created and designed by Blessed Carlo Acutis in 2002. It consists of an extensive collection of photographs and historical records representing a sampling of ancient and modern Eucharistic miracles that have taken place in various parts of the world. The collection was assembled by the Vatican to mark the Year of the Eucharist (2004-2005). After being shown at more than 500 parishes in Italy\, it is now traveling the rest of the world. \nBring the exhibit to your parish or school!\nThe exhibition brought to Phoenix is comprised of 47 different miracles spanning 1500 years\, with the most recent one having occurred in 2013! The miracles featured are from Europe\, Asia\, and the Americas. The exhibition offers you a virtual tour of these veritable treasures of our faith. To bring this exhibition to your parish or school\, email EucharisticMiraclesArizona@gmail.com. \nBlessed Carlo Acutis\, pray for us! Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament\, pray for us!

SUMMARY:Renew Our Hearts: Franciscan Advent Conversations
DESCRIPTION:Faith in Action Ministry \nTake time to quiet your heart during the busy Advent season – Dec. 12 and Dec. 19\, 2022 \nLet us begin again\, for until now we have done nothing.” \nFor two Monday evenings in mid-Advent we will take time to pause from the “holiday hustle and bustle” and instead take a step back “to begin again” and reconsider who we are\, and renew our hearts in preparation to receive Jesus this Christmas. We will use readings from the Advent 2022 Daily Reflections with Saint Francis booklet\, published by Franciscan Media and join with Franciscans and friends across the world to remember the reason for the season. Our time together will also include contemplative prayer\, reading Scripture\, and conversation. And perhaps\, during this time of prayer\, we too will feel little “touches of grace.” \nRegistration closes on Sunday\, December 11 at 3 pm. \nParticipate in this 2-week program from the comfort of your own home. Held on Zoom\, participants need to be able to access this course through the Zoom application. Once registered\, participants receive a registration receipt from the Franciscan Renewal Center. Closer to the start of the class\, the Zoom access information will be provided to you through an email from alw@thecasa.org. \nParticipants can pick up the booklet used in the course in the Narthex or at the Guest Services desk. \nFee: $10. Pre-registration required. \nCommuter\nFull price $10.00 \nSign Up By Sunday\, Dec 11 at 3:00pm\nFRC.retreatportal.com

SUMMARY:Imaginative Prayer Series | Advent with Mary
DESCRIPTION:In the Ignatian tradition\, praying with the imagination is called contemplation. Contemplation is a very active way of praying that engages the mind and heart. Ignatius was convinced that God can speak to us as surely through our imagination as through our thoughts and memories.
