DESCRIPTION:The story of Adam and Eve\, originating over two-and-a-half millennia ago\, arose at a time when the anthropological worldview was vastly different from our own. While we now stand under the light of the Big Bang Theory and evolutionary biology\, this Genesis account of the human condition is still the basis for Christian salvation history. Prompted by the results of scientific discovery\, Fr Michael Patella\, OSB will explore the questions science raises for our concept of sin as well as pose an alternative framework for twenty-first century Christians to employ in their thinking about redemption.

DESCRIPTION:The theme “A Reason for Hope” is based on 1 Peter 3:15 that states we should all be prepared to give a reason for the hope that is in us. This retreat will center on discipleship. There will be four speakers sharing how they walk in discipleship with the Lord where God has placed them. The keynote speaker is Lisa Hendey\, international speaker\, founder of CatholicMom.com\, and author of many inspirational books. One of our parish priests will educate us on the Kerygma—the Gospel message of salvation through Jesus Christ. Attendees will draw their spiritual journey and then practice blending it with the Kerygma. Participants will be asked to find a person they do not know and share the Gospel message with that person.

In honor of St. Pio of Pietrelcina\, better known as Padre Pio\, his relics are being displayed in dioceses across the U.S. The relics of this modern-day saint\, who is beloved around the world\, will be at Saint Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church in Scottsdale\, Monday\, February 7 from 10 AM – 7 PM. \nSix relics of the saint have been brought from Italy to the United States for the first time. All are invited to come and venerate these official relics of St. Pio and to participate in the celebration of Mass at 6 PM. The relics will be on display for veneration from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated in honor of St. Pio at 6:00 p.m. The Saint Pio Foundation\, which is sponsoring the relics tour\, will sell books and items related to Padre Pio in the entryway of St. Bernard’s.

DESCRIPTION:Presentation #3 in Church of the Holy Spirit’s 2022 Lecture & Film Series\nFr. Patrick Behling speaks on “The Papacy”\nTuesday\, February 22 from 7:00-8:30pm in the Church \nFr. Patrick J. Behling is a priest of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee\, where he currently serves as associate pastor of St. Mary’s Visitation Parish in Elm Grove. Also an academic theologian by training\, his current research interests include the papal teaching office\, the spirituality of the priesthood\, and the religious life. Prior to the seminary\, Fr. Behling worked as a U.S. Senate page and staffer\, and he remains interested in constitutional law and congressional goings-on\, happy to be on the sidelines rather than in the thick of things. He holds degrees from St. Olaf College\, Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology (where he met Fr. John Clote!)\, and the University of St. Mary of the Lake. \nSummary on The Papacy – Lecture & Film Series:\nCatholics are devoted to the papacy and rightly so\, but many Catholics don’t know much about the roots of the papacy in Scripture\, Tradition and the history of the Church. We’ll take a look at what Catholics believe about the role of the Pope\, why we believe it\, and how certain other Christians have reacted to and criticized our teachings on this important subject. We’ll pay particular attention to papal infallibility – what it is\, when it applies\, and why it matters. Then we’ll consider some open questions about the papacy. Finally\, we’ll leave time to field questions.
