SUMMARY:Crosswalk: A Veteran's Journey to Healing
DESCRIPTION:“Crosswalk: A Veteran’s Journey to Healing” will be offered at the Crosier Community\, 717 E. Southern Ave\, Phoenix\, beginning on Saturday\, October 9th\, from 0930-1200. \nCrosswalk is a community of veterans who gather to have conversation about their social\, emotional and spiritual experiences related to their military service. Crosswalk was developed by Fr. Robert Rossi\, CSC\, and was underwritten by the Phoenix Rotary 100 and the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation. \nThe program is free and will be facilitated by Joel Larson\, a U.S. Army veteran and Manager of Chaplain Services at Aurora Behavioral Health. \nCrosswalk consists of 12 monthly sessions on Saturdays where they use the 14 Stations of the Cross that model the journey that Jesus made on the way from his trial with Pontius Pilate to his burial. The sessions relate these stations to the journey that veterans make recovering from the psychological and spiritual wounds from their military experience. \nPlease note: at this time\, the program is only open to male veterans\, however\, the program may be expanded for women veterans in the future. \nFor more information\, please call 623-252-5535\, or see the attached flyer. \nJoel Larson\, MDiv\, MAHS\, BCC is Aurora Behavioral Health System’s Manager of Chaplain Services. He retired from the Arizona National Guard as the Senior Chaplain Assistant after serving for 20 years\, including a deployment to Mosul\, Iraq. Joel has worked as a mobile crisis therapist for EMPACT- SPC and has also been a facilitator for the Building Spiritual Strength offered by the Casa Veterans Ministry. Joel is also a member of the BeConnected Faith Network Advisory Committee for the Arizona Coalition for Military Families.

DESCRIPTION:Maggie’s Place is excited to host our 2021 Miracle of Motherhood event on October 9\, 2021 at 5:30pm in the evening at Pubblico Italian Eatery Phoenix Courtyard. This annual fundraising event was dormant in 2020\, but we are thrilled to gear up for what is sure to be a memorable 2021 event. \nJoin us for our silent auction\, cocktail reception\, dinner\, program and entertainment. Funds raised will go directly towards serving the mission of Maggie’s Place. Maggie’s Place provides life-changing housing\, programs and services for pregnant and parenting women and their children by offering a warm and welcoming community\, a safe place to live and learn and on-going services to help them become self-sufficient throughout their pregnancy and beyond. \nWe opened our doors in May 2000\, and now\, 21 years later\, we have provided services for more than 1\,048 mothers and welcomed more than 650 infants into Maggie’s Place homes. We currently have 4 homes and 2 small apartment complexes throughout the valley and provide the highest quality of support and care to homeless pregnant women.

SUMMARY:Healing of Memories for All Veterans Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Announcing an in-person Healing of Memories Workshop for All Veterans. It will be held at the Franciscan Renewal Center on October 15-17\, 2021. The workshop will provide the participants with a safe experiential and interactive way to address anger\, loss\, grief and guilt. The workshop is free of charge to any service member or veteran\, including all meals and two nights lodging. It begins with dinner at 6 p.m. on Friday\, October 15\, and ends at 1pm on Sunday\, October 17. Veterans who have attended this workshop say that it was a major step in their healing from their psychological and spiritual wounds. Transportation will be provided to those who need it. \nIn order to ensure the safety of the participants and facilitators at this workshop\, we will be following the CDC Coronavirus Guidelines. In an abundance of caution to protect the participants\, some of whom may have underlying health issues\, this workshop is only open to those who are fully vaccinated. This restriction will be re-evaluated for the future workshops. All participants will be provided their own private rooms. \nThe Healing of Memories Workshop was created by Father Michael Lapsley\, an Anglican missionary priest\, who in 1990 suffered the loss of his hands and the sight in one eye from a letter bomb that was sent to him in Zimbabwe by a supporter of the pro-apartheid government in South Africa. After a long recovery from the bombing\, Father Lapsley decided to dedicate his life to helping victims of emotional\, psychological and spiritual wounds inflicted by war\, human rights abuses and other traumatic circumstances. \nAny service member or veteran who is interested in the workshop may find out more information or register free for the workshop by contacting Mike Wold\, US Navy Veteran and workshop coordinator\, at 651-687-9767.
