SUMMARY:92nd Annual Educational Conference: Be Not Afraid: Courageous Catholic Medicine
DESCRIPTION:For over 92 years\, authentically Catholic healthcare has faced many challenges\, and continues to do so. The 2023 conference will focus on the virtue of courage and its importance in the care of our patients and ourselves. Presentations by clinics\, clergy\, and ethical leaders will demonstrate the critical role of courage from a multitude of perspectives. Attendees will also benefit from encouragement provided by experts in medical media\, medical legal issues\, and the political circles. The information and inspiration offered by the speakers\, the fellowship\, and the liturgies will continue the tradition of a high-quality annual conference that has been maintained for nearly a century. \nThe patronage of the Three Holy Archangels promises a clear message under each of their traditional charisms: St. Raphael’s courage to heal\, St. Gabriel’s courage to communicate\, and St. Michael’s courage to act. In these times of conflict and confusion in medicine\, the courage to imitate Christ in our care for others must be cultivated. This conference will meet that need. \nYou do not need to be in the healthcare profession to attend the conference.\nFor more information about the “Be Not Afraid Conference” and the Catholic Medical Association\, visit: https://www.cathmed.org/

SUMMARY:Engaging Spirituality: Bearing Witness Overnight and Virtual
DESCRIPTION:Faith In Action Ministry \n“The Engaging Spirituality materials are rich\, and the conversations with my classmates have been deep and meaningful. It has strengthened my prayer life and changed the way I see my relationship with God\, others and the world.” ~ Scott B.\, Participant \n– Online/virtual Program. Wednesdays\, September 13 – November 1\, 3 – 5 pm. \n-Tuesday\, Sep 12\, 4:00pm through Wednesday\, Sep 13\, 10:00am\nFor participants who have registered for the Engaging Spirituality: Bearing Witness program. Fee is $120 per person. Pre-registration required. Includes dinner on Tuesday and breakfast on Wednesday.\nSingle Full price $120.00 Sign Up By Monday\, Sep 11 at 4:00pm \n– Two in-person on-campus days\, 9 am-4 pm: Opening Reflection Day on Wednesday\, September 13; Immersion Day on Saturday\, October 14 \n– Pre-registration is required. Fee is $60 – information is below. Registration closes at Noon\, Thursday\, August 31. \nConsider Engaging Spirituality as a time to reconnect. Perhaps you are… \n• longing to live an undivided life\, \n• ready to pattern your life around prayer and outreach\, \n• curious about how to be more present\, aware\, and awake\, \n• open to reconciliation\, healing\, and growth\, \n• seeking rest for your soul. \nThe most important requirement is a longing for a deeper and wider appreciation for life. \nEngaging Spirituality (ES) is a small group process that invites you to draw our broken and beautiful world into reflection and hold it in prayer. It is about slowing down\, listening\, breathing\, caring\, and connecting deeply. To live an undivided life\, we do not “turn away” from the struggles and suffering in the world\, but instead create a safe space to bear witness to them. How do we fully hear\, lovingly support\, and deeply recognize the spiritual journeys of ourselves and others? We practice living deeply/contemplatively as well as loving broadly/compassionately. \nThe program registration fee is $60 and includes classes\, digital materials\, and a Reflection Day and an Immersion Day. Scholarships are available. Email es@thecasa.org to inquire about a scholarship. Books required for the course has a fee of $50 for all three\, which is paid separately. An FRC overnight room is optional on Tuesday night\, September 12 (and includes an additional fee of $120). Please note: Books for the course will be available for purchase at the first meeting on September 13. All details are found below and on the informational flyer found on the FIA LinkTree (online bulletin board of programs and outreach) www.linktree.com/socialconcerns. \nImportant details \n“Engaging Spirituality Bearing Witness” (from JustFaith Ministries) is offered at the FRC as a late Summer/early Fall virtual course\, with two in-person on-campus gatherings held from 9 am to 4 pm. Bearing Witness is a 9-week commitment and begins on Wednesday\, September 13 with the Opening Reflection Day (Wednesday\, September 13). After the Opening Reflection on-campus day\, ES gathers weekly on Zoom (Sept 20\, 27\, Oct 4\, 11\, 18\, 25\, Nov. 1). There will be an in-person on-campus/hybrid Immersion Day on Saturday\, October 14. \nA group of 9 to 16 people accompany one another through the course materials. The weekly sessions are co-facilitated and involve some preparation in advance of the session. Sessions include group contemplative prayer\, journaling\, Lectio Divina\, active listening\, spiritual exercises\, relationship building through paired or group sharing around questions of faith\, spirituality and personal growth\, and personal letters from contemporary spiritual pathfinders. Participants have preparation between each session. \n1. Scholarships are available. Please note\, we do not want cost to prevent you from participating. Request a FIA scholarship form by emailing es@thecasa.org. When you complete the form\, you indicate what amount you can pay toward your participation and submit the form for approval. You will then be notified of the next steps. If you would like to have a conversation about the scholarship\, please contact es@thecasa.org. \n2. Optional Overnight Room opportunity- $120. Once registered participants will be sent an email with an invitation to spend a night of retreat and reflection at the Casa/FRC on Tuesday night\, September 12\, starting at 4:30 pm check-in (prior to the Opening Reflection Day on September 13). You must register in advance for the discounted room. Enjoy a night on the FRC property\, starting with dinner; avoid rush hour traffic the morning of September 13. The discount rate is $120 (overnight\, dinner at 6 pm and breakfast at 8 am). \n3. BOOKS. Books are purchased separately and will be available to buy on September 13 at the in-person Opening Reflection Day. The fee for all three books is $50. Please note: couples who participate in ES each pay the $60 registration fee. And they can adjust the book costs based on if they plan to share the books. Every participant is required to have their own Engaging Spirituality journal. \n4. Immersion Day (Saturday\, October 14) details will be determined by the materials\, and the facilitators and participants. \nIn addition to the Zoom link and Opening Reflection Day information\, more explanation regarding the purchase of the books will be sent to registered participants prior to the start of the session (in early September). \nCommuter\nFull price $60.00 \nSign Up By Thursday\, Aug 31 at 7:00pm\nFRC.retreatportal.com

SUMMARY:Potluck\, Popcorn and Peace
DESCRIPTION:Faith In Action Ministry \nLidia Celebrates America\, Flavors That Define Us\n“For any immigrant\, it is a personal choice as to what to bring and what new things to embrace. But we should always be proud of where we came from and not be afraid to share our culture.” ~ Lidia Bastianich \nJoin us for a gathering to celebrate World Peace Day with *World Table Potluck as we enjoy our feature film by Emmy-award winning TV host\, Lidia Bastianich\, as author\, and restaurateur explores the immigrant experience through food in Lidia Celebrates America: Flavors That Define Us. \nCommon among this nation of 46 million immigrants is the fact that these individuals are often faced with the question of what it means to be an American. As America grows more diverse\, immigrants must figure out how much of their culture to bring with them\, and what to leave behind\, and many are more openly sharing their heritage with a new country they now call home and are helping to define. \n*POTLUCK: In the film\, Lidia organizes a potluck-style meal\, where immigrants share food that is meaningful to them. Lidia calls it\, a ‘table of the world’. In the spirit of the film\, we invite you to bring a dish that reflects your cultural heritage as we sit down at our table and celebrate peace. –Prepare a dish to share with 8 to 10 people that is meaningful for you\, something from your heritage\, ethnic traditions\, culture. \n–Please bring a place card that describes your dish (origin\, history) as well as a list of ingredients to inform attendees of what makes up the body and taste\, plus possible allergies and food sensitivities. \n–And\, if you want\, also bring copies of the recipe to share with others. \nBasic schedule (which may be adjusted) \nPotluck\, Popcorn and Peace Movie – World Peace Day Celebration \n12:30 pm – sign-in/doors open. \n12:45 pm – Potluck meal and refreshments \n1:20 pm – Introductions\, Prayer\, Film(s) at 1:30. \n2:45 pm – Dessert and Conversation \nImmigrant Stories \nA refugee/immigrant herself\, Lidia Bastianich was born in 1947 in Istria\, an Italian territory ceded to Yugoslavia after World War II. She spent the first years of her life under communist rule\, then fled with her family across the border to Italy. There they lived in a refugee camp for two years until an aid organization helped bring them to New York in 1958. Lidia states\, “I understand what it means to need help and the relief and satisfaction when people are helped. I understand the value of freedom and democracy\, the freedom to speak one’s language and the freedom of worship. What I understand even more is the act of being grateful and giving back.” \nIn this film\, Bastianich travels to both new and established immigrant communities\, and shares stories of first\, second\, and third-generation Americans. She asks about their motivations\, challenges\, and experiences. She visits a Bhutan refugee who has built a new life in Ohio\, Cuban immigrants feeding people in Kentucky\, and Indian Americans creating businesses in California. In Texas\, she meets Afghan refugees helping new arrivals\, and second-generation Vietnamese American “MasterChef” season-three winner Christine Ha\, who often mixes her Vietnamese heritage with Tex-Mex elements. \nWorld Peace Day: Each year the International Day of Peace (IDP) is observed around the world on 21 September. The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. Two decades later\, in 2001\, the General Assembly unanimously voted to designate the Day as a period of non-violence and cease-fire. It is a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace; a call to action that recognizes our individual and collective responsibility to foster peace. 2023 is also the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. \nFee: $10 per person. Pre-registration required. \nCommuter\nFull price $10.00 \nSign Up By Thursday\, Sep 21 at 7:00pm\nFRC\,retreatportal.com

The manifestation may be as simple as a host floating on air or as astonishing as a host becoming visible human flesh. \nBlessed Carlo Acutis\nTo always be close to Jesus; that’s my life plan. \nWith these few words\, Carlo Acutis\, the boy who died of leukemia\, outlines the distinguishing feature of his brief existence: to live with Jesus\, of Jesus\, and in Jesus. This international exhibition was created and designed by Blessed Carlo Acutis in 2002. It consists of an extensive collection of photographs and historical records representing a sampling of ancient and modern Eucharistic miracles that have taken place in various parts of the world. The collection was assembled by the Vatican to mark the Year of the Eucharist (2004-2005). After being shown at more than 500 parishes in Italy\, it is now traveling the rest of the world. \nBring the exhibit to your parish or school!\nThe exhibition brought to Phoenix is comprised of 47 different miracles spanning 1500 years\, with the most recent one having occurred in 2013! The miracles featured are from Europe\, Asia\, and the Americas. The exhibition offers you a virtual tour of these veritable treasures of our faith. To bring this exhibition to your parish or school\, email EucharisticMiraclesArizona@gmail.com. \nBlessed Carlo Acutis\, pray for us! Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament\, pray for us!\nPLEASE CHECK WITH PARISH FOR EXACT SHOWING TIMES.
