Social media Catholics enjoyed traipsing through the northern part of the Diocese of Phoenix via #semsonthebus in early June. If you’d like to virtually travel abroad — and have seen enough of Brazil via World Cup coverage — consider catching up with some Brophy and Xavier students who are immersing themselves in other largely Central and South American countries this summer.

Follow “Gators Give Back” and “Gators Go Global” for a look at the ongoing service efforts of Xavier College Preparatory students. There are a group of students who just returned from Nicaragua through Me to We‘s “Adopt a Village” program and another on an immersion service-oriented trip at the Working Boys’ Center in Quito, Ecuador.

Highlights I found from Ecuador include:

There are minimal highlights from Nicaragua right now due to Internet issues and the students may add more content later, so don’t forget to check back. For now, maybe check out this exterior shot of reportedly the oldest church in the Americas.

You can also get another look at Pope Francis’ home country through the eyes of American Jesuit high school students. It looks like they have returned, but a group from Brophy shared final reflections worth reading.

Other groups went to El Salvador, Peru and China.

If you looking for a more simple travel experience, consider this blogpost from the Catholic Review in the Archdiocese of Baltimore about a Mass experience in the Diocese of Austin.
