BVM sister dies

Sr. Mary Faith Lautz, BVM, 96, died Oct. 1 in Dubuque, Iowa. The longtime educator was principal at Xavier College Preparatory from 1966 to 1974 and went on to serve in the Midwest, Alaska and California as an educator, administrator and in pastoral ministry.

She was born in Dickinson, N. D., on Dec. 12, 1917, to Frank and Ann (Wenner) Lautz. She graduated from Holy Angels Academy in Milwaukee and entered the BVM congregation from St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Milwaukee Sept. 8, 1935. She professed first vows on March 19, 1938, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1943.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Dorothy Hamilton and Jane Singer. She is survived by nieces, nephews and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared life for 79 years.

The funeral liturgy is today in Dubuque with burial following in Mount Carmel cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity, BVM Support Fund, 1100 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, Iowa 52003, or online.
