A Franciscan Vision of St. Francis and Easter – A Contradiction?!

Fr. James Saback, OFM
A program presented in partnership with the Franciscan School of Theology
Both the Franciscan tradition and Franciscan sources have embraced Francis’ identification with the Cross of Christ and with Francis’ desire to share in Christ’s suffering through the gift of the Stigmata. But does it end there? Is there anything of Easter, or an understanding of Easter that can and must be gleaned from Francis’ life and the movement that has followed his life? Indeed there is and it is in need of being reclaimed and recovered, especially through insights gained from understanding the San Damiano Cross in a much broader way. As a symbol of Easter glory and victory the San Damiano Cross reveals the need for all believers to accept the challenge of Christ’s life, to be people who live and act for each other, embracing the truest nature of what it means to “be human”.
Program will be presented in the San Damiano Auditorium.
