Living Into Peace

February 28 @ 8:30 am - 3:00 pm

The Casa Peace Ministry

Peace Is Messy
What life conditions need to be created for peace? Can we cultivate both inner and outer peace to “live into peace” with God, creation and each other?

This one-day workshop is offered by the Peace Ministry in recognition of the global observance of the Season for Nonviolence which occurs January 30 – April 4, honoring the lives and deaths of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King. Franciscan theologian, Fr. Richard Rohr, OFM, states, “We don’t think ourselves into new ways of living, we live ourselves into new ways of thinking.” How do we live our way into peace?

A long-held tradition, Franciscans greet others, take leave of others, and encourage one another through the expression “Peace and All Good.” Together let’s explore the life experiences that give substance and meaning to this reminder of love in our fractured world.

This workshop will look to the examples and inspirations offered by men and women who have been beacons of and for peace, from Jesus through modern day practitioners. Using the “Sermon on the Mount” as a framework to determine some practical applications, it will offer opportunities for exercises or activities that constructively build peace, and/or address anger and tension creatively.

How do we bear witness to pain and suffering and live Pope Francis’ call in “Laudato Si’: Care for Our Common Home” that states, “Our goal is not to amass information or satisfy curiosity, but rather to become painfully aware, to dare to turn what is happening to the world into our own personal suffering and thus to discover what each of us can do about it” (par. 19).

Education methods may include video, individual and small group exercises, prayer and contemplation, reflective writing, and presentations by speakers to be determined. The Peace Ministry core team consists of Michael Powell, Judy Zene, Michael Bradley, Rosemarie LeClercq and is staffed by Laura Libertore.

Fee: $50 per person including lunch. Pre-registration required.
