Lessons from Kenya bring “Glimpses of Heaven” to diocese
On a sleepless night in Nairobi, Kenya, Lazmhy Gallo Hernandez suddenly had an idea about what she could do when she returned to her home parish, St. Charles Borromeo in Peoria, Ariz. Gallo Hernandez decided to develop programming called “Glimpses of Heaven” for her parish’s teen group. “When we were in Kenya, oftentimes participants were saying this is what heaven would look like,” she shared. “It came to me randomly. I was being woken up by the sheep outside and it came to me.”
Applications open for Engage Your Equal, Kenya
Applications have officially opened for the 2026 cohort of Engage Your Equal (EYE), a service immersion program that fosters global solidarity among young adults, cross-cultural dialogue and a deeper understanding of the universal Church. This marks the second consecutive year of the program.
Week two from Kenya: giraffes, solidarity and an archbishop’s charity
Eight young adults and four mentors have embarked on a two-week trip to Nairobi, Kenya, as the inaugural participants of Engage Your Equal (E.Y.E.), a new diocesan initiative created by Bishop John Dolan to foster global solidarity, faith-based leadership and cross-cultural dialogue — all along equipping young adults to embody the universality of the Catholic Church.

Local young adults head to Africa
This week, eight young adults from the Diocese of Phoenix are heading to Nairobi, Africa, as the inaugural group of Bishop John Dolan’s newly developed program, Engage your Equal (E.Y.E.) — an opportunity to facilitate global solidarity among young adults around the world and to foster a deeper understanding of the universal Church.
This service immersion experience in a foreign country is the first of three major components of the program, which also includes intentional community support among participants and implementing shared experiences into ministries throughout the diocese upon their return.
